Often in a new residential build, there can be a lack of soul or character. It was important that the materials selected for the Canyon residence felt that they had lived a previous life. The varying levels of texture within the reclaimed oak, split face stone and steel trowel stucco contrast each other to soften the modern shapes and spaces of the structure.
The living spaces were conceptualized as pavilions centered around an open atrium at the heart of the residence fitted with roof top planters which allow creeping vines to gently filter the sunlight into the middle of the home. Two additional exterior landscaped atriums perforate the spaces which allow the dilution of divide from interior to exterior. While the main living space is a large volume that opens completely and expansively to the rear yard, deck and pool.
